Resolving email field assignee based issues

Overview

Several potential reasons can cause inbox, entry details, or other Gravity Flow pages involving email field-based assignees not to display as expected. The fix in each case may be different depending on the hosting environment, plugins installed, theme, or custom code.

For most conflicts, you can use the WordPress.org community’s official Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. Refer to this article for more information.

Blank Inbox

A page with an Inbox block or shortcode is blank due to aggressive caching by the web host.

When reviewing entries via Workflow > Status, you can confirm that an email field has assignees. However, viewing the inbox on the front end of your site does not show any entries listed for them. Ensure the page is not cached on the server, or contact your hosting provider to remove it from the cache.

Refer to this article for more information about caching.

User does not have permission error

A merge tag linking to the entry from a notification displays a warning that the user does not have permission.

If your environment includes CloudFlare, check that under its’ settings for Scrape Shield that the Email Address Obfuscation setting is deactivated.

Refer to Cloudflare’s official documentation for more information.

Other possibilities

You have a security plugin active that is blocking long URLs.
Try temporarily deactivating the plugin or verifying what security setting(s) are causing the conflicts.

The page that contains the Gravity Flow shortcode uses curly quotes instead of normal quotes.
If you’ve copied and pasted the shortcode, open up the editor in text mode and check that the quotes inside the shortcode aren’t curly quotes. If your theme supports it, we recommend switching to the Gravity Flow Block.

You have multiple Gravity Forms or Gravity Flow shortcodes on one page.
This leads to conflicting filters in looking up entries for the assignee. Try temporarily removing the extra shortcodes to see if that resolves your issue.
