Overview
This article explains how Gravity Flow handles fields that are populated by Populate Anything. Which step types show them, what the assignee sees, and what is saved in the entry. Configuring Populate Anything itself is covered in the Gravity Wiz documentation.
Requirements
Gravity Flow 2.7.5 or later and Populate Anything 2.1.78 or later.
Populated Fields in Workflow Steps
The fields must be editable for dynamic population to work in workflow fields.
| Field on the step | Result |
|---|---|
| Editable field | For User Input and Approval workflow steps, dynamic population will function correctly. |
| Display field (Approval or User Input step) | Display-only fields will not update dynamically within the workflow step |
| Not displayed on the step | Value kept unchanged after the step completes |
Here’s a brief video showing Populate Anything and dynamic merge tags in fields.
Also, the University Name, Department, and HOD name are populated using live merge tags in the Label and Description of the text-area field and in the HTML field below the text-area.
Form Submission Steps
A Form Submission step shows the full form to the assignee, so populated fields behave as they do on the front end: choices load when the form is displayed and update as the assignee fills in the fields they depend on.
Known Limitations
The workflow detail page displays the choice label instead of the value stored in the entry. Merge tags, notifications, and exports use the stored value.
